J.C. Newman Cigar Company keeps Tampa’s 140-year-old cigar tradition alive at its historic El Reloj factory in Ybor City. El Reloj has become the premier destination for cigar tourism in the United States. Last year, J.C. Newman welcomed more than 20,000 visitors to visit its cigar museum, take a guided factory tour, learn how to hand roll cigars, or attend an event. J.C. Newman is now expanding with the restoration of the 115-year-old Sanchez y Haya building across the street from El Reloj.

The Sanchez y Haya building was built in 1910 to house and feed cigar workers, visitors, and neighbors. A century ago, the building had a restaurant and bar on the first floor and a hotel on the second floor. When it reopens late next year, we will return the building to its original condition, bringing together food, cigars, and lodging in three distinct experiences: Elaine’s Restaurant, Stanford’s Cigar Club, and The Inn at El Reloj. Each of these spaces honors the legacy of J.C. Newman’s second-generation leaders, Stanford and Elaine Newman, whose influence continues to shape the company’s values of quality, hospitality, and community.

Elaine’s is an elegant, full-service restaurant inspired by the grace and confidence of Elaine Newman. From refined dishes to warm hospitality, it celebrates her legacy as a gracious host and tastemaker, bringing people together through food, style, and conversation.

Stanford’s is a sophisticated cigar lounge that reflects the bold spirit and discerning taste of Stanford J. Newman. Designed as a tribute to his love of cigars, luxury, and timeless style, it offers a currated, high-touch experience for those who appreciate the finer things.
