The American

The American was the first cigar brand rolled in the historic El Reloj factory when it opened in Ybor City in 1910. In 2016, The American was reintroduced by fourth-generation owner, Drew Newman, as a 100% American cigar, once again hand rolled at El Reloj. From the cigar molds to the heirloom tobacco inside, every part of this cigar is proudly grown and sourced in the United States, paying tribute to America’s centuries-old cigar making tradition.

The American is a medium-bodied American puro. Every part of this cigar is proudly grown and sourced in the United States, from the tobacco inside to the hinges on the box. A Florida Sun Grown wrapper surrounds a carefully aged blend of Connecticut and Pennsylvania tobaccos, delivering a distinctive, earthy flavor.

Clermont, Fla.

Four decades after Florida’s last commercial tobacco crop was harvested, Jeff Borysiewicz revived the state’s tobacco-growing tradition with a 20-acre farm in Clermont. Using Corojo 99 seed, he cultivates the acclaimed Florida Sun Grown tobacco in Florida’s warm climate and mineral-rich soil, creating a rich, earthy character unlike any other. The American is the only cigar crafted with a Florida Sun Grown wrapper, making it a true tribute to Florida’s historic cigar heritage.

In the late 1700s, the Foster family began farming the rich soil of South Windsor, Connecticut. Centuries later, this same farm lives on, growing premium cigar tobacco on 150 acres of rich, fertile soil in the Connecticut River Valley. Today, John Foster is one of the premier growers of Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco, which serves as the binder for The American cigar.

Mennonite Family Farms

Lancaster, PA

In the early 1700s, Amish and Mennonite families settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where they began growing tobacco for cigars. The region became famous for its rich cigar tobaccos and the origin of the term “stogie,” named after the Conestoga wagons whose drivers smoked long, hearty cigars rolled with fresh Lancaster leaf. Today, Amish and Mennonite families continue this time-honored tradition, cultivating tobacco by hand without tractors, electricity or hired help. The American features a blend of rich heirloom tobaccos grown by a cooperative of Mennonite families in Lancaster County, PA.
